Hiking photos

Today was the first day in quite a while that’s been nice enough to spend outside, so I invited Kelsey to explore a couple of local forest preserves with me. The weather was beautiful – 55º, sunny, and not too windy – and I got to take lots of great photos. And, we saw lots of mushrooms and fungi!

We didn’t spend as much time at the second preserve, but we DID find this brain fungi just off of one of the main trails.

We also saw some cool bracket fungi, and a strange red plant (or maybe some sort of fungi?) growing in patches of moss on a fallen tree trunk.

If anyone recognizes the fungi and/or plants pictured, please feel free to comment with their names! I’m especially interested to know what those red things are.
